Regine Criser

Regine Criser is Assistant Professor of German and Director of the First-Year Experience at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Her research focuses on post-1989 German literature and culture, particularly on the concepts of family, memory, agency, and space. She has been involved in higher ed in prison programs since her time as a graduate student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Patrick Bahls

Patrick Bahls is Professor of Mathematics and Director of the University Honors Program at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. His interdisciplinary interests include composition and rhetoric, community writing, and urban studies.

Renee J. Alexander Craft

Renée Alexander Craft is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) with a joint appointment in the Department of Communication and Curriculum in Global Studies. She earned a BA in English Literature and an MA in Communication Studies from UNC-CH and a PhD in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. For the past fifteen years, her research has centered on an Afro-Latin community located in Portobelo, Panama who call themselves and their carnival performance tradition “Congo.” She published a monograph titled When the Devil Knocks: The Congo Tradition and the Politics of Blackness in Twentieth-Century Panama, as well as a digital humanities project, Digital Portobelo: Art + Scholarship + Cultural Preservation, which reflect this focus.
