Amy Howard is the Executive Director of the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and associated faculty in American studies at the University of Richmond. The theme of engaged citizenship runs through her work: with outstanding colleagues at the CCE she works to embed intentional community engagement across the institution, to collaborate with community partners to address community-identified needs, and to deepen student learning. She teaches community-based learning courses focused on urban issues using Richmond, Virginia as a case study. Her book More Than Shelter: Activism and Community in San Francisco Public Housing will be published by the University of Minnesota Press in April. She serves on the board of the Better Housing Coalition and is a member of the City of Richmond Planning Commission.
