Laura Browder is the author of Rousing the Nation: Radical Culture in Depression America (named a Choice Outstanding Book), Slippery Characters: Ethnic Impersonators and American Identities, Her Best Shot: Women and Guns in America, and When Janey Comes Marching Home: Portraits of Women Combat Veterans (with photographs by Sascha Pflaeging). Her plays, Spitting into the Wind and Sheep Hill Memories, Carver Dreams, have been supported by grants and awards from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities as well as the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. She is the executive producer of the documentary The Reconstruction of Asa Carter, which aired nationally on PBS in the spring of 2012. Browder is the Tyler and Alice Haynes Professor of American Studies at University of Richmond.
